Kamal Haasan

Kamal Haasan & Sridevi

Even they don't know how many films they've done together but the guesstimate is around 30-35. The masterful actors, Kamal Haasan and Sridevi, have done films in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam over a span of nearly two-decades and yet, somewhere along the way, they stopped starring together. For reasons unknown.

However, Kamal Haasan has said in interviews they were like siblings who bickered constantly on sets and he bullied her, much to her chagrin. As Sridevi said on the Tamil TV show Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi with Prakash Raj (the south Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire?), Kamal Haasan used to make fun of her and called her "Sardarji" during the making of Satyavan, Savitri!

Despite all that, the two have spoken about each other with great appreciation for their respective talents and don't seem to have any problems any more. For fans of great Indian cinema, an on-screen reunion with these two actor of actors is highly anticipated, but no producer nor screenwriter  has come up with anything worthy to assemble this dynamic duo together. It would have to come down to Kamal Haasan himself - a writer, director, producer - to create something suitable for the dual powerhouses. WIth breath that is baited, we wait. Until then, thank goodness for telecasts of their archival films on TV.

An incomplete list of movies the two appeared in:

  1. I saw the Video of these Pictures. Kamal Hassan just for a Photo Opportunity came to Sridevi. Even Rajni kanth showed up at Sridevi's to the Party in Chennai that Sister Srilatha gave to celebrate Sri getting Padma Shri Award. All Heroes go ga ga over Sridevi let alone Fans.!! Missing from the list above is Sridevi and Kamal Hassan Starrer Sigappu Rojakkal in 1978. It was remade into Red Rose starring Rajesh Khanna and Hema Malini. Kamal Hassan put up a fight to select Sridevi instead of Rati Agnihotri and refused to act in Ek Duje ke Liye but lost. The producer and director wanted a salable Heroine Fair in color.Sridevi was still in Sadma mode in Bombay but was giving super hits and Romantic Pair with kamal Hassan and all others too.
