Sridevi and Anupam Kher on the sets of Chaand Kaa Tukdaa. From one of the very few funny scenes in the god-awful film.Chaand kaa Tukdaa was launched with great fanfare as writer/lyricist/producer/director Saawan Kumar Tak held a competition to launch a new face for the film. Salman Khan was riding high as his previous collaboration with Tak, Sanam Bewafa (a Muslim social with a handful of good songs) was a surprise hit. Allegedly Khan insisted he wanted to work with "his favourite actress Sridevi" and she was roped in to star in the film though a story or script had yet to be etched out. When you see the film... it becomes alarmingly clear that they went ad hoc with the production of this silly caper.
The lead cast looked gorgeous, had a few hit song and dance routines (including the spectacular Aaj Radha Ko Shaam) but absolutely nothing could save this torturous enterprise from scene one till the bitter end. The only thing it did establish was a life-long friendship between superstars Sridevi and Salman Khan. Perhaps not all went to waste...

Below, Anupam Kher recites an awful 'sher' to Sri in the comedic scene and its too good. Shame the same cannot be said of the movie!
