Though Lamhe wasn’t appreciated, Sreedevi was. |
How gorgeous Sridevi looked in her simple yet elegant white sari (the movie opened just a few months after her father tragically passed away).
Bright lights, a band and beautiful women greeted the invitees at the Lamhe premiere. ‘Good things come to Metro’ screamed a hoarding and rightly so. Yash Chopra seems to have a Metro fixation, what with almost all his movies being premiered there. Deepak Malhotra came in unnoticed and stood in a corner waiting to be seen on the silver screen and be mobbed. It was another matter that even after the premiere, no one seemed to notice him. Anil Kapoor was his nervous self. The person who made a grand entry was… no, not Sreedevi, but Anupam Her. He sure is giving the stars a complex nowadays. Yash Chopra seems the coolest person around. It looked as though he was confident that the movie would be a success in spite of its controversial story. Lamhe what brought to the fore another female writer Honey Irani (the child star). Reema Nath just tasted success with Saajan and now, it’s Honey’s turn. Talent must have rubbed off from hubby Javed Akhtar.

The trophy giving ceremony during the interval was a boring affair. A tussle ensured between Amrish Puri and Anil Kapoor which obviously, the tougher Amrish won. And Anil settled for a backstage position. The only bright spot was when Sreedevi came on stage looking exquisite and was presented her trophy by Hema Malini. Of course, Sunny and Randhir Kapoor now seem to have become quite well versed with presenting trophies.
The party at the Taj started late at night, so everyone was quick to the dinner table and headed straight for the exit. But Anil, Rikoo and Yash Chopra it seemed were involved in an intense discussion.
Below: Rare pictures of Sridevi at the premiere of Lamhe. She attended the grand event with her widowed mother. Sridevi's beloved father Ayappan had tragically died in Madras (Chennai now) during the making of the when she was in London shooting for the film.
Gifted Girl: Even if her hero should prove somewhat less than noble in lineage, he's sure to feel like royalty in her loving arms. Born performer, Sridevi gives her audience exactly what it wants at the premiere of Lamhe
