When it comes to film discussions, most people focus on the lead actors; the heroes and heroines who have their faces plastered on the posters. But there are so many other supporting actors who have equally contributed to the success of a film, playing their lesser parts with greater zeal. Here's a mini tribute to them;
-- Sridevi has successfully co-starred with the legendary Waheeda Rehman in four films; Himmatwala, Maqsad, Chandni and Lamhe. Waheeda Rehman has said, "Sridevi is good artiste."
-- Sridevi had similar pairing with Nutan as well in Karma, Guru and Garajna.
-- Sridevi had perfect chemistry in comedy with Annu Kapoor in films Mr. India and Chaalbaaz. As the much harassed editor, Kapoor had the best comic scenes with Sri in Mr. India. In Chaalbaaz, his role was a mixture of a sympathetic servant who had a rather glib outlook on life.
-- Sridevi has been successfully paired with Rishi Kapoor in two of her mega hits Nagina and Chandni. In both these films Sushma Seth played his mother - and Seth was a combative foil to Sridevi's heroine act.
-- Yet another actor Sridevi has been supported is Shakti Kapoor. Who can forget him and his legendary Aaooo Lalitha. Again he was there right from the beginning in Himmatwala to films like Mr Bechara, Chaalbaaz, Ram Avtaar, Himmat Aur Mehnat, Inquilaab, Mawali, Justice Chowdhary, Laadla and so on.
-- Sridevi's two biggest hits and iconic roles were in the films Nagina and Mr.India. Both films had another equally talented actor matching her abilities; Amrish Puri in Nagina and Mr.India. As the evil snake charmer Bhaironath to the charming snake-woman Sridevi, Puri was a formidable force to reckon with. And as Mugambo, well, what's left to say about the most gleefully wicked performance by the late great Amrish Puri in Mr India?
-- Another actor who always had great magic with Sri was Kader Khan. Right from the beginning (Himmatwala) to the last film Sridevi did, Judaai, they have entertained us together in countless hits. Their memorable films are, among others, Tohfa, Gair Kanooni, Ghar Sansar, Justice Chaudhury and Majaal to name a few.
-- Sridevi perhaps had most magical chemistry with her co-star, the non-hero Anupam Kher. Their dual 'jugalbandi' was undeniable in films like Lamhe, Chandni, Laadla, Karma and Chaalbaaz.
