No Sadma sequel with Sridevi: Kamal Haasan
Reports doing the rounds suggests that Kamal Haasan is doing another film with Sridevi, thereby reviving the pair that rocked on the screen of Tamil cinema all through the ’70s. Some reports also suggest that Haasan is planning a sequel to their 1983 classic Sadma with Sridevi. However the actor dashes all hopes of another film with the English Vinglish actress.
Says Haasan, “There are no plans of a film with Sridevi. And this idea of a sequel to Sadma is preposterous. We did the story twice over in Tamil and Hindi. I am sure she is as bored of it as I am. Much as I would like to work with her again, I’ve no script that would do justice to her especially after English Vinglish.”
Sridevi has gone on-record to say she has learnt much about acting from Haasan. “If she says so, then I must say she’s good learner. The amount she invests into her role is exemplary. There’s a dispute between Sridevi and me about how many films we’ve done together. She says it’s around 25 films. I say it’s a lot more,” laughs Haasan.
The actor also cuts down talk of a sequel to his 1981 hit Ek Duje Ke Liye which had launched his career in Hindi cinema.
“We had a story idea of how to take the narration forward. But it was used by another director for a project. So the director, K Balachanderji and I decided we wouldn’t get into that space again.”
