Hrithik Roshan & Sridevi's connection

The child-stars turned superstars Sridevi and Hrithik Roshan have, believe it or not, many, many things in common.

Apart from the fact they've already starred in a film together, a young Hrithik Roshan and Sridevi shared screen space in the '80s flick Bhagwaan Daada, both reached the pinnacle of national fame early on in their respective careers.

While there are many stars who act a bit, and many a great actor who has a disproportionate slice of fame, these two have the uncommon thread of being unbelievably popular and being supremely good actors respectively. When there's no denying how famous Hrithik Roshan is, he's also a fine actor, who has given many award-winning performances. The same can be said of Sridevi, who, despite starring in an endless parade of masala films, has always been a great actress, acknowledged for her versatility.

Both can, essentially, do no wrong. Be it acting, dancing, looking good on screen and off, be it their sex-appeal, their comic timing, their sympathetic roles, their innate fashion sense, their ability to appeal to an audience of young and old, their heart-throb status, their award-winning performances... the two can do it all, have it all.

When Sridevi did the intellectually stunted role in Sadma, Hrithik did it in Koi Mil Gaya. When Sridevi did the super-heroine stint in Nagina, Hrithik did it in Krrish. While Agneepath showed Hrithik's simmering rage, Sridevi in Laadla spent an awful lot of time being enraged. As Sridevi carried a title-role and career-defining film (Chandni), so has Hrithik (Krrish). And Sridevi's sung on film (Chandni) and so has Hrithik (Kites) - and both songs got the same reception by the critics! ;o)

Sridevi's been vocal about how much she's enjoyed Roshan Jnr's performances and rang him up soon after Koi Mil Gaya to congratulate him on a flawless performance. Hrithik was so thrilled with the message that he's kept it on his phone ever since - as he's said in past interviews. Recently, he caught up with the last empress of Bollywood, and told her how much he enjoyed her latest film and her superlative performance in English Vinglish. Sridevi, in a similar vein said, she was thrilled to get the unexpected call.

Off screen, the two are into staying fit and healthy and espouse a lifestyle that includes working out and eating sensibly. Both married within the industry and have two children each; Hrithik and Suzanne Roshan have two boys while Boney and Sridevi have two girls. Their sartorial sense off-screen makes many fashion-bloggers gush as they hit the red carpet in style and in trend. Both grace many magazine covers annually and rarely have a negative word to say about anyone in print, minding their p's and q's, as they know how a media maelstrom can be set off with an off-the-cuff remark. Both never shy of praising others and both, have kept mum when they've not been given their due; Hrithik deserved many awards for Guzaarish and Sridevi for English Vinglish. But... oh well...

A mutual admiration society aside, wouldn't it be great to see these fine actors in an off-kilter film?

It would take a screen-writer of note, a producer with guts and a director of supreme talent to bring this duo, these two superstar-actors in a truly different film.

Unlikely as it may be, but here's hoping. After all, Umeed pe duniya kaayam hai...
