Will Sridevi FINALLY have Koffee with Karan?

Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit
Will she or won't she? Renaissance man Karan Johar (producer, director, writer, reality TV judge and confirmed bachelor) has repeatedly mentioned that his favorite actress of all time is Sridevi. He has invited the iconic Indian to his popular chat-show Koffee with Karan (the fourth season on its way) over the years but the reclusive diva, gun-shy of any interview, let alone a televised one, has politely declined several offers.

If its any consolation, she has also declined interviews with Simi Garewal (also a professed Sridevi fan), Anupama Chopra and a host of other interviewers salivating to get the cine-superstar on their television show, a coup, an exclusive...

It was only after much cajoling and coaxing that Sridevi started the painful rigmarole of endless media sound-bytes prior to the release of her splendid film English Vinglish that journalists were lucky enough to have an audience with the Queen of Indian cinema. Sadly, it was the one year where Koffee with Karan was not running on air (as he was busy directing the sophomoric Student of the Year).

After a campy musical clip announcing the comeback of the show, will K Jo finally get his wish and dream fulfilled by getting Sridevi on his couch for a tongue-in-chic (everyone looks good on his stylish show) and tongue-in-cheek Q&A? Indeed, as many have wondered online, will he manage the coup of coups, by getting superstars Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit together?

Karan Johar with Sridevi, 2012
On Jhalak Dikhla Ja earlier last year, the dancing reality show adjudged by Madhuri Dixit and others, it was historical television first to get the grande dames of Bollywood together in the same frame. Between dances of the contestants, there was a mini rapid-fire round where Johar asked the two leading divas a few cheeky questions, but the billion fans of the two ladies would love to get a full hour.

Just as Dixit's Gulaab Gang releases later this year, the dancing diva is bound to hit the roster of TV shows to plug her film. As MD supported Sri in her comeback, it would be extremely gracious of Sridevi to return the compliment. An ideal time to get the shimmering sari-clad ladies to talk shop in the soft-lense chat show.

Unlike the ever-warring faction of fans of the two (god save the trolls online), the two ladies have been indulgent of the other in print. Unlike catty contemporaries, the old school ladies are indeed that; ladies first.

Ever-chatty Madhuri Dixit has been game to appear on the show (having done so twice already) so getting her on the couch might not be too difficult. But the reticent Sridevi will be a hurdle. She has indicated in the past that she might appear if Boney Kapoor's her plus one. But the trouble is loquacious Boney has a way of taking over interviews, leaving Sri to smile diffidently on the side. No doubt he's great fun and full of humour - kindly note the archive of snaps we have of Mr Kapoor making Sridevi laugh over the years, bless him, - but we fans really wanna hear from Sridevi herself. But the question is, will she or won't she?!

Wait and watch.

UPDATE: We are not alone in wishing for this duo to appear together. Even Rediff has posted:

At the same time that Anil and Jackie were getting along like a house on fire, Dixit and Sri were getting on each other’s nerves, with Hindi cinema’s most closely-fought battle for the Number One slot, a battle that indeed made the number game more important than it ever was.

Now, with both ladies more mature, it’ll be wonderful to see them exchange civilities. Or sarcasm.
