For her great friend Manish Malhotra's Mijwan 2017 Fashion Show, and for her friend and colleague Shabana Azmi (truly one of the great Indian actresses of all-time), last night Sridevi arrived in a bespoke sari that only she, with her effortless elegance could have pulled off. Within the folds of satin and a shoulder-sheathed in cloth, Sridevi walked the red carpet looking like a Greek Goddess... with an Indian soul! (To pilfer a Gautam da quote).
Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma were the show stoppers in Mumbai but our eyes were on the front-row where Sridevi sat glowing, glorious, gorgeous.
Named after a village in Uttar Pradesh, NGO Mijwan Welfare Society (founded by Shabana Azmi's late father, poet Kaifi Azmi) was launched with the goal of creating employment opportunities for women, and reviving the art of chikankari embroidery. The NGO is now headed by Shabana along with Naresh Goyal's daughter Namrata.
