Gauri Shinde and Sridevi

Gauri Shinde, “I have had the honour of seeing her talent in action. There can be no bigger joy than that. People like Sridevi are not born everyday. I had the honour and the tremendous fortune of experiencing her really sensitive, intuitive, caring, funny, childlike innocent side. She understood cinema more than others. There are two kinds of stars. Some are super and others are super real. She was real.”

“She was private not because she was shy. She was just protecting her craft and art, an art that required her to preserve her imperfections which she was too scared to lose by constantly portraying perfection in public. That is why, despite her 15 year sabbatical, I laughed and cried with Sridevi not as a director but as an audience watching the volcano erupt. A volcano that was lying dormant for years quietly preserving her sensitivity not allowing anything to corrupt her core. She was a great actress because she had the guts to be human,” she added.

Gauri ended her speech by saying, “I just have one grouse with Sridevi. You left before I said pack up. There was so much more to do.”
