Sridevi was born in Sivakasi, a town in Virudhunagar District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. She might be the town's most famous former resident. Known for its firecracker, matchbox and printing industries, if you ever pass through the arteries of Sivakasi, you'll find Sridevi firecrackers, Sridevi's image on matchboxes, Sridevi posters in shops dotted along roads, her image making a cameo day and night as you drive along the patchy paths.
In fact, when the shutters come down, it's not uncommon to find the visage of Sridevi staring out, painted on the metallic folds of little shops around the corner. Though Sridevi was an early subscriber to celebrity endorsements (Sridevi appeared in adverts for saris, from bulbs to kitchen appliances, from the early days till her final ones), we are not sure about the link between Sri and those industries profiting from using her image on products that she (and her family) may have little to no linking or inkling of.
Sridevi's family had a business within the state (relating to plastic and plastic products back in the 80s and 90s), not sure how involved she herself was within this lucrative industry now.
