Oh dear God.
Um what...?! Think Janhvi Kapoor's expression says it all.
Sridevi's wax statue was unveiled earlier in Singapore today but it joins a notorious list of epic fails by the wax figurine tourist trap... I mean tourist attraction. In failing to capture the magic and essence of a superstar, Sridevi's waxwork joins a long ignoble list of ludicrous celebrity replicas that are anything but.
That unfathomable, ethereal quality that separates a phenomenon like Sridevi from mere mortals.
We thought we'd have a maudlin day of reflecting on the late actress and her untimely passing - instead Madam Tussaud's gave us a shock... and then made us lol.
I think the reaction shot by the family is going to inspire memes galore...
This is not the first time Madame Tussauds has failed epically - there are several YouTube clips of stars reeling back in horror at their alleged replicas. Watch The Graham Norton show in particular as its a popular section on the chat show were stars squirm in horror.
One of the fans suggested that it wasn't the fault of the makers as Sridevi had passed and they had to refer to images of the actress. Sure, Marilyn Monroe died decades ago, so did Elvis. Their figures don't look like horrors. Stars such as Russell Crowe have sent strongly worded cease and desist orders and there are several other actors who'd rather not be honoured or lampooned by the creators.
If you want to remember Sridevi, find her magic in her 250+ movies. Might want to skip this 'attraction' by a mile.
#JustSayin'
#JustAnOpinion.
PS: Think there are innumerable fan art and endeavors that did a better job.
PS2: Public Opinion poll, an overwhelming majority found the endeavor... embarrassing.
Update 2:
So Switzerland is planning an attempt to immortalise Sridevi. To a generation of movie goers, Sridevi introduced the verdant pastures and sun-kissed mountains of the Swiss alps to India via Chandni.
We just hope they do a better job than... Singabore... Singapore did.
