Vinod Mehra's turned producer-director. His V.M.Productions' first film Gurudev was launched at a well-attended mahurat at Mehboob Studios, Bombay.The film's star-cast includes Rishi Kapoor, Anill Kapoor, Sridevi, Anupam Kher and others. Many film personalities attended the launching of the film, evidence no doubt of the amount of goodwill the actor has in the industry.
Like all film launches, this one too was inevitably delayed. And, then, after more than an hour's wait, as Subash Ghai gave the clap for the shot. Anil Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Sridevi came on to the stage to mouth their lines. And then moved up front to pose for the usual snaps.

The entire feature was of course a fallacy - Sridevi's father entered politics on the insistence of her surrounding friends and family and Sridevi went along to support him. She has stated on record several dozen times she had no interest in joining politics.
