Had he been alive, producer and director Yash Chopra would have turned 88 today. Yash Chopra was born 27 September 1932 and died soon after completing the film Jab Tak Hai Jaan; a prophetic title for the filmmaker who made films until his last breath.
Seen here with Sridevi at FICCI 2008, Yash Chopra presented his muse and "favourite actress of all-time" Sridevi an award for her contribution to Indian cinema. (More in the archives here).
In the book, Yash Chopra, Fifty years in Indian cinema by Rachel Dwyer, Sridevi said, "He's extraordinary. He's one of the best directors in the country. Though he's such an experienced director, his thoughts are very fresh, very young.
There is no tension at all working with him. There is not even one day we cancelled the shooting, or something has not come. Very well organised, so much fun, so relaxed. He knows exactly what he is doing. He's a very fast director. I remember Lamhe - he had to finish, only three days left for one and half songs. Any other picture, I would have felt the strain, but here I didn't even realise he'd done it. Joking mood, making artistes comfortable."

Juhi Chawla, "He makes lovely films. Chandni is one of my favourite films. Very lovely, very romantic, classy, dream-like kind of films. He presents his heroines very beautifully. He makes them very rare, everyone wants to work with him. Everyone wants to be presented by him. "
Artist M.F. Hussain, "His films are purely Indian. Remarkable. Roots of our culture. Yash makes highly romantic films, entertaining films. He has a style of his own to make a good film, blockbuster. There is a language of cinema which Yash has; the way he portrays women, even in Chandni, Sridevi a powerful portrayal. He has great visual imagery, sheer beauty, sheer grace."
