Born on December 12, 1950, the superstar among stars Rajinikanth turns 70 today. He did around 17 films with Sridevi and the chemistry the two had, be it in drama or comedy was incredible. When she passed, he cancelled all his celebrations that year, be it his birthday or anniversary. He spoke the press the day after she died and said, "“Our friendship dates back to 40 years before when she made her debut in Moondru Mudichu, which was my second film. She had an electrifying screen presence when the camera started rolling. Sridevi was one of my very few close friends in the industry.”
To be honest, we were slow to be entranced by the magic of Rajinikanth - we only saw few of his Hindi films (which weren't always great, particularly in the 1980s).
Later, we saw his power and magic in Madras - whoaaa. The man is truly something else. His genuinely humble nature, kindness and humour sets him wide apart from all the egocentric superstars of India, esp those loaded with fake humility....
Genuinely a fan of the person and the persona on screen - there's no one on earth like Rajinikanth.
Happy birthday Thalaiva!
