An interview with a screen teen queen: Kerala star Balachandra Menon with precocious Sridevi

An interview with a screen teen queen: a rare pic of Balachandra Menon with precocious Sridevi

Before Balachandra Menon was an actor (who went on to become a writer, producer and noted director), the veteran actor was a journalist and correspondent for the Malayalam film weekly Nana

He interviewed a young, teenaged rising star in south films, the precocious and beautiful Sridevi.

She went on to reach the zenith of pan-Indian, national and international fame. But in the 1970s, she was a cute little ingenue and rising star. Well-versed in the Kerala film industry, as a child artist, Sridevi had already won major awards for her work in Malayalam films. The cute cherub won her first award by the age of 10, and before Bollywood took her over, she had acted in around 25 Malayalam films. When she visited Kerala for Onam back in 2013, she spoke briefly in the native language of Kerala and addressed the fact that her cinematic career took off from the south and she had a long association with the industry.
