When you think of Reena Roy, the first image that crops up is her lip-syncing the iconic song, Sheesha ho Yah Dil Ho, from her blockbuster Aasha (1980) - which was remade in Telugu two years later as Anuraga Devatha (1982), in Tamil as Sumangali (1983) and in Bengali as Mandira (1990).
Sridevi (above left) appeared in Anuraga Devatha and recreated the look, mannerisms, all the way down to the polka dots. The two never worked together, Reena Roy was in Hindi films since 1972 and was Sridevi's senior - only by 6 years though. When Sri suddenly passed, Reena Roy made a rare public appearance to honour the late great actress.
Today - Jan 7 - is Reena Roy's 66th birthday. We wish the actress well.
The role of the Naagin - snake woman superpower/superheroine... - has been done most memorably by Vyjanthimala, Rekha, Reena Roy, Sridevi and Sharadha Kapoor.
