The film was no blockbuster but broke even with a sensible budget and a quick shoot. The remake of the Tamil hit Veetla Visheshanga (1994), Mr.Bechara released around the same time as Jeet-the Salman Khan, Sunny Deol, Karishma Kapoor, Tabu multi-star cast film- and got sidelined at the box-office and press. There was hardly any pre-release publicity or awareness for the film when it released in the summer of '96.
