Sridevi at Filmfare Awards Night ,just as it was announced she won Best Actress for Lamhe. For the first and last time, a film deemed unsuccessful (which it wasn't - it more than broke even, but wasn't a blockbuster like its predecessor Chandni) but went on to win a slew of popular awards, including Best Film, Best Screenplay and so on.
After that, the award shows started getting televised and sponsored - and the corruption crept in and the bat-shittery began. Then it got so obvious and rank, the powers-that-be HAD to split it into categories like Critics Award and then Popular Award. A classic case of everyone who attends gets an award aka everyone's a winner.
Now don't get me wrong, Hrithik Roshan is a fine actor but for him to get Best Actor for Dhoom 2??? And then for him to NOT get it for Guzaarish. There is no greater joke than award shows in India.
Even at the National level.
Saif Ali Khan got his Padmashree before Sridevi! Arjun Rampal has a National Award but Sridevi doesn't! From top to the bottom of the barrel, award-shows are a freakin' joke. Thankfully, Sridevi stated in interviews that rewards mattered more than awards; she rather her film was a huge hit than win pointless trophies and trinkets, in the grand scheme of things!
