Women written by Women: Three Women wrote leading characters on film and Sridevi rocked them out

The most well-known female writers (screenwriters/story/dialogue writers) who contributed to films starring Sridevi include:
  • Honey Irani — She wrote the story and screenplay for Lamhe (1991), where Sridevi played a dual role as mother and daughter, Pallavi and Pooja.
  • Gauri Shinde — As writer-director, she wrote English Vinglish (2012), Sridevi's acclaimed comeback film where she played Shashi Godbole.
  • Kamna Chandra — She wrote the story for Chandni (1989), directed by Yash Chopra, with Sridevi in the lead as a woman in a love triangle.
These are the only three prominent examples of women writers who crafted significant roles or stories for Sridevi, often in female-centric or empowering narratives.
Cannot think of others, but mostly as writers are rarely given the spotlight in India - even today. Salim-Javed, Gulzar, and to a certain extent Kader Khan (mostly because he was also famous on camera, not just behind the scenes) are the only well-known, successful names in Bollywood that come to mind.
