Rare pic: Sridevi with Subash Ghai at the premiere of Mr.India

Giving the microphone to Subash Ghai is... generally a mistake. His faulty English, his love of the stage and showmanship, he can prattle on for a bit with his non sequiturs.

Ghai hasn't had a hit or decent film since Taal. Rumour has it, he's workin on a sequel... Something that no one asked for. His preferences for Ms; Meenakshi, Mandhuri, Manisha, Mahima... was no match for Sridevi. 

He gave better roles to heroes than heroines... and Sridevi stated she felt she was wasted in a multi-starcast film like Karma - even though it was the biggest hit of 1986, but she didn't have much to do in the film other than a few songs and scenes. He praised Sridevi often on stage - eg during the premiere of Mr.India. during English Vinglish post-film promotions... But it seemed more like a post success reactionary comment on the leading lady. 

PS: Sridevi's simplicity in attending the premiere. My how times changed....
