Akkineni Nagarjuna - although mostly known mononomously as Nagarjuna, with the other one-named wonder Sridevi, are trending on social media with this ai-enhanced images. You can see the audio cover of their film thrown in between above!
They shared a unique on-screen dynamic that spanned both Telugu cinema and Bollywood. Together, they appeared in only three films: K. Raghavendra Rao’s Aakhari Poratam (1988), Mukul S. Anand’s Hindi epic Khuda Gawah (1992), and Ram Gopal Varma’s Govinda Govinda (1993).
Their biggest hit together was Aakhari Poratam. Featuring Nagarjuna as a rebellious performer and Sridevi as a brave CBI officer, the action thriller became a massive box-office blockbuster and showcased their electric chemistry.
Despite entering the film industry around the same time as leading stars, Nagarjuna was the senior of the two by approximately 4 years (Nagarjuna was born on August 29, 1959, while Sridevi was born on August 13, 1963).
One of the most remarkable aspects of their professional relationship was Sridevi's legacy with the Akkineni family. Before starring opposite Nagarjuna, Sridevi acted in over a dozen films with his legendary father, Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR), forming a historic hit pair in classics like Premabhishekam (1981), Prema Kanuka (1981), and Bangaru Kanuka (1982).
Reflecting on her extraordinary ability to bridge generations and maintain unmatchable screen grace, Nagarjuna recalled her professionalism: "She played my father's daughter and then his romantic interest in several films, and then she was my co-star. No matter whom she was paired with, Sridevi was completely at home... The minute the camera was switched off, she went back into her shell. She was an astonishing artist."
His affectionate praise underscores why their collaborations remain etched among the most celebrated chapters of 1980s and 90s Indian cinema.
