Rare Pic: Anil Kapoor and Sridevi in London for Lamhe

Rare Pic: Anil Kapoor and Sridevi on the sets of Lamhe

As a friend and colleague - before they became in-laws, Anil Kapoor had the opportunity to praise and critique the actress. He said in Filmfare magazine in the early 90s, "We did Lamhe together. I didn’t agree with her interpretation of the role in Lamhe. There was no need for her to be extra glamorous and wear coloured lenses while playing the Rajasthani belle. In any case, she was doing such sort of stuff in her other films. But her acting in the film was something else. Why should I complain? She even won the Filmfare award for it."

While a section of snowflakes go up in arms over any mild criticism, constructive criticism shouldn't be taken the way an insult does. It's the sort of American "everyone is special (ipso facto no one is!), you all get a participation trophy" kind of BS that sets people back, doesn't help them improve. On that note, I agree with Kapoor's comments. Sridevi didn't need the lenses, the tinted brown hair (that was a trend in the 90s) or any of the accoutrements that took away, instead of adding to her near-faultless performance.
