Unlike any other film industry, all Indian leading ladies need to have a dancing skill-set to make it to the top league. Perhaps in the black and white era - during the time of Nargis, Nutan, Meena Kumari - actresses didn't need to be terribly proficient as dancers. Capable but not without faults. Then there was the Vyjanthimala, Waheeda Rehman, Hema Malini era... all the way down to Rekha, Sridevi and well, the southern invasion of Bollywood, when every single heroine simply had to have a dancing skill set (along with acting, extraordinary-good-looks and so on).
Sridevi remains forever etched in the pantheon of great dancers on screen. Reluctantly. She always gave credit to her choreographers and directors and humbly shied away from compliments about her grace, expressions and footwork.
Personally, we think you can't take your eyes off Sri when she's dancing - she was exquisite.
