Became a bigger fan of hers, after a Q&A session, when she politely, respectfully, ceased a critic - who was a senior citizen and politician - with such grace - it made me want to be as gracious as a human being and learn to argue back with ease and restraint.
"Raise your argument, not your voice," was the motto and she never lost her cool despite facing an army of ugly voices, shouts and rants. A class act.
What makes her so incredible is the ease in which her thought flows in Hindi and in English. Her command of both languages is second to none. While there are many fans of - say Shashi Tharoor for example, his exemplary English doesn't make up for his stuttering Malayalam or clumsy Hindi. Smriti Irani can do verbal calisthenics like no other in both languages. Perhaps more!
Then, to know/hear later that Sridevi was a fan - and Smriti was a fan of Sridevi, well, of course we joined the club.
When Sridevi passed - it hurts even typing that - Smriti Irani said such thoughtful words - we have them archived here.
Today as the model turned actress turned politician turned the most elegant speaker of the house turns 45, we wish her continued good health and happiness. We hope you continue to inspire in word, action and thought.
Happy Birthday Smriti Irani.
