Following Sridevi's shocking and untimely passing on February 24, 2018, in Dubai, Aruna Irani became visibly emotional in televised interviews, describing a deep personal and professional sense of loss.
In conversation with ABP News, she teared up while recounting their routine encounters as neighbours in the same building in Mumbai: "Jab hum ek hi building mein rehte hain aur har shaam, har doosre din, woh bhi ek-dedh ghanta walk karti thi, main bhi walk karti hoon. So almost hum takra jaate the [We lived in the same building, and every evening, every other day, she would also go for a one-and-a-half-hour walk, and so would I. We would almost bump into each other]. Aur aaj bhi mujhe lagta hai jab bhi walk pe jaaungi, I will definitely miss her [Even now, I feel that whenever I go for a walk, I will definitely miss her]." She emphasized the shock of the news, calling it a profound blow to the industry and expressing that Sridevi's absence would linger in everyday moments like their shared walks.
In another interview with Lehrein Networks alongside actor Shakti Kapoor, Irani echoed these sentiments, again, as she lamented the sudden demise of her once-frequent co-star she admired. She highlighted Sridevi's talent and the void left in Bollywood, stating that the industry had "lost a legend" whose energy and presence were irreplaceable.
