Four years after Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari (JVAS) shattered box office records and redefined mass fantasy, the iconic pairing of Chiranjeevi and Sridevi returned to the big screen in S. P. Parasuram. Expectations were not merely high; they were astronomical.

Directed by Ravi Raja Pinisetty and backed by top-tier production values from Allu Aravind, G. K. Reddy, and Mukesh Udeshi, the film carried a massive budget for its era. Chiranjeevi stepped into the boots of Parasuram, a fiery, uncompromising police officer, while Sridevi brought her signature charm as Kumari, a petty thief who lightens his gritty world. M. M. Keeravani supplied a high-energy soundtrack, and the leads' electric dance chemistry remained as potent as ever.

Yet, when the film hit theaters, a quiet sense of disappointment rippled through the audience. Coming directly in the long shadow of JVAS, fans craved another larger-than-life fairy tale. Instead, S. P. Parasuram was a faithful remake of the 1993 Tamil cop drama Walter Vetrivel. The jarring shift from whimsical fantasy to a traditional, heavy-handed police procedural left many moviegoers underwhelmed. Compounding matters, the Hindi version, Khuddaar, had released just months earlier and performed exceptionally well in AP/Telangana, blunting the remake’s element of surprise.

At the box office, the film settled as a modest, average performer, falling short of the commercial juggernaut status distributors anticipated.

Though it didn't replicate the lightning-in-a-bottle magic of their previous collaboration, S. P. Parasuram holds a special place in Telugu cinema history. As the final feature to pair Chiranjeevi and Sridevi, it stands today as a stylish 1990s time capsule - celebrated by fans for its striking soundtrack and the irresistible star power of two unmatched icons. Sridevi looks absolutely beautiful in the film - her fashion and styling was a rage in the 90s and the music hit the charts high. The stats however didn't reach JVAS status sadly and the film was written off back then. It finds new life online and on OTT today for fans craving to see Sridevi in Telugu cinema, looking as dazzling as she always did.
